The creativity around activity planning here at Layston Grove never ceases to amaze us. Just when you think you’ve seen it all you are invited to a Bungee afternoon.
If there are any positives to be gained from the pandemic, I think that the sheer ingenuity displayed by local businesses to diversify and adapt to the needs of the community is one of them. There has been a flurry of innovation and the team here at Layston have taken full advantage.
This week we were thoroughly entertained by the team who had hired an inflatable bungee. The garden was set up beautifully and we got to sit in the sun and take part in the fun by placing our bets on the team and who would come in first in a race to the finish.
The team tried to take it seriously and some of them started out quite competitively, but each race just descended into raucous laughter, it was very difficult to tell who the winners were.
The afternoon flew by, and just when we thought the surprises had come to an end our wonderful chef appeared with a candy floss machine. I felt like a child again, just the smell transports you back to childhood days with fairground rides and sticky treats. I could almost hear the whirr of the big wheel. We sat contentedly, eating our candy floss and swapping childhood memories of days out and trips to the funfair and then as the afternoon came to an end we sipped on cold wine and raised a glass to the team.
There is never a dull moment here, the activities are well thought out and often extremely creative. I wonder what they’ll think of next…
