Moving into a care home should not signal an end to community involvement. The only thing that should change is your address. A good care home will support inclusion and enable residents to continue to make a valid contribution to the society around them. It will ensure that life can continue in a way that is familiar with as little disruption to routine as necessary.
Since taking over at Layston Grove, Halcyon Care Homes have been working behind the scenes to ensure that our home is at the heart of the community in which it stands. We have researched the area and spoken to our residents about the village and what makes it such a great place in which to live.
We have been liaising with members of the local community in a bid to, not only take part in social events but to organise them and to offer our support to local causes.
This week saw the first step in our latest community project. The residents wanted to do something for the children of the village and so they have been painting pebbles, these pebbles will be placed around Buntingford. The ladies and gents thought that the children would enjoy spotting them, they can even post photographs of them on our Facebook page, and we’ll send out prizes and certificates to anyone who spots them. This is just one way in which the residents can use their time for the benefit of others. They are very excited to see how many are found.
It is so important that lifelong ties to the village are not lost by our residents and that they feel empowered to have their say on local issues and are kept up to date with local events.
Several of our residents have lived in and around Buntingford for many years and have been active within the community, attending the various events that Buntingford do so well. It is important that this continues.
We are going to be working with our residents and their families to ensure that Layston Grove Care Home and all who work or live within it can connect with the residents of Buntingford, enjoy being part of this wonderful village and make a valid contribution.
Our next event will be our Christmas Fayre on the 16th of December. We are very excited that Santa Claus himself will be in attendance, he’s even agreed to bring his reindeer. We hope to see you there.
