Thursday 20^th January was Penguin Awareness Day and who doesn’t love penguins?

We had a whole day dedicated to these wonderful creatures starting with a walk down memory lane discussing our own encounters on family trips to the zoo. We then had a fabulous discussion; Penguin Awareness Day was set up to draw attention to the dwindling numbers of penguin colonies. It is estimated that half the population of emperor penguins will vanish by the end of this century. The main reason for this threat is the environmental issues threatening their habitat. We can all help the penguins, if we do our bit to tackle climate change, we can halt any further reduction in their numbers.

The morning discussion was educational and informative and by contrast the afternoon was very relaxing, we began by creating some penguin art, using various mediums, paint, glue, tissue paper, it was a lot of fun. We then retired to the cinema room with a well-earned glass of wine to watch March of The Penguins. If you haven’t seen it, I would highly recommend it.

Once you reach our age you assume that you’ve learned everything you’ll ever want or need to know, days like this prove otherwise.
